Sambal Embe

Sambal Embe is Balinese sambal, can be found in nasi campur Bali, nasi ayam as a side dish.

    Ingredients

    • 7 chilies
    • 10 shallots
    • 3 cloves of garlic
    • half teaspoon shrimp paste
    • 1 lime
    • pinch of salt
    • two pinches of bouillon powder
    • 35 ml cooking oil

    Preparing the spices

    Slice thin the shallot and garlic.

    Heat the oil in the pan and add shallots and garlic.

    Fry shallots and garlic till golden brown and then drain,

    Cut the chilli into 4 pieces.

    Fry the chili and shrimp paste for 2 minutes.

    Place the chili and shrimp paste into bowls. Add fried shallots, fried garlic, salt, bouillon powder, lime juice and mix.

    Sambel Embe is ready to serve with Balinese main course dish.

    If you are vegan, shrimp paste can be removed.
