SUMMARY:World Tourism Day 2026 — Siem Reap
DESCRIPTION:Every 27 September the world marks World Tourism Day, and in 2026 Cambodia’s national celebration comes to Siem Reap. For a city whose livelihood is built on welcoming visitors, this is more than a diary date — it is the province’s own festival of itself.\nWorld Tourism Day was established by the UN World Tourism Organization to draw attention to tourism’s role in culture, jobs and understanding between countries. Cambodia rotates the host province each year, and the Ministry of Tourism has designated Siem Reap as the 2026 host — a recognition of the province’s place at the centre of the country’s visitor economy, from Angkor to the floating villages of the Tonle Sap.\nThe day is built around cultural showcases, tourism promotion and a public procession. The parade sets off in the late afternoon, around 5:00pm, moving along the main roads of Siem Reap town and finishing at the Royal Independence Gardens, where a stage programme of performances follows. Expect traditional dance, music, provincial food and craft displays, and floats from hotels, tour operators and community tourism groups across the province.\nIt is a local celebration rather than a tourist attraction, which is exactly what makes it worth catching. The crowd is Khmer, the mood is civic and cheerful, and visitors are simply folded into it. There is no ticket and no admission.\nIf you are in Siem Reap in late September, base yourself near the river in the late afternoon. The Royal Independence Gardens end of the route is where the programme concentrates, and it is an easy walk from the Old Market and riverside hotels.
