Made in Cambodia Market
Made in Cambodia Market
The Made in Cambodia Market is a daily fair-trade market in the heart of Siem Reap’s Old Market district, where local artisans sell directly to visitors. Unlike the large souvenir halls nearby, every stall here is run by a Cambodian craftsperson selling work they have made themselves — silk scarves, lacquerware, rattan baskets, hand-painted ceramics, jewellery, and organic skincare. Many vendors donate a portion of their profits to local NGOs, so shopping here has a direct community impact.
The market runs daily from 12pm to 8pm on Oum Khun Street, just a short walk from Pub Street and the Old Market (Phsar Chas). It is free to enter. The atmosphere is low-key and unhurried — vendors don’t chase you, prices are marked or agreed upon calmly, and the quality of goods is notably higher than at the big tourist markets. Expect to spend longer than you planned.
On Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday evenings, Phare Circus performers drop in for pop-up shows. Phare — Cambodia’s celebrated social enterprise circus — has been a partner of the market since its 2013 launch. The performances are spontaneous and free; they typically happen in the early evening and last around 20 minutes. If you’re in town on one of these nights, it’s worth timing your market visit around 6–7pm.
The market was formerly located at Kings Road Angkor before moving to its current spot on Oum Khun Street. It is now a well-established fixture of the local arts and crafts scene — smaller than you might expect from the name, but consistently praised by visitors for the authenticity of what’s on offer.
For first-time visitors: bring cash (USD or Riel both accepted), don’t rush, and take time to speak with the vendors — most are happy to explain their craft and the story behind their work.
