Japan Guitar Shop — Live at Laundry Bar
Japan Guitar Shop are coming back to Laundry Bar, and for this band that is less a gig than a homecoming.
When the Phnom Penh group first started touring, Laundry was one of the first rooms that took them — and it became, in their own words, their home away from home. In the years since they have recorded at 60 Road Studios out near the temples, tried out new songs on the Laundry crowd, and eventually debuted their first album, Done You Right, on this stage. They now return with new material.
The sound is original blues rock with hip-hop running through it — loud, loose and built for a small room. The band has toured Thailand, Vietnam and Korea, and Done You Right drew good notices well beyond Cambodia, but they remain very much a Phnom Penh band playing to people who know them.
Laundry Bar has been Siem Reap’s live music room since 2002 — a small, dark cocktail bar off Wat Bo Street with a stage at one end and no pretensions at all. It is the venue where touring bands actually want to play.
Doors from 8:00pm on Saturday 18 July, running to about 11:00pm. Free entry. Get there early if you want to be near the front — the room is not large, and this one will fill.
