Yoga Nidra & Crystal Bowl Sound Healing — Aum Yoga Center
On Friday evenings at Aum Yoga Center you do not practise so much as lie down and let the sound do the work. Yoga Nidra and Crystal Bowl Sound Healing is an hour of guided stillness — no postures, no effort — with quartz singing bowls played into the room around you.
Yoga nidra is often translated as “yogic sleep”, though you do not quite sleep. You lie on your back, covered and comfortable, and are talked slowly through the body while the mind drops below its usual chatter. It is one of the few practices that is genuinely accessible to everyone: nothing is asked of your flexibility, your fitness or your experience. You simply have to lie there.
The bowls are the other half of it. Aum keeps a substantial set of crystal singing bowls, and the session builds into an extended sound bath — long, overlapping tones that you feel in the chest as much as hear. The class is led by Shiva, the centre’s lead teacher.
Siem Reap has quietly become a centre for sound healing — Angkor Grace hosts the Global Crystal Bowl Symposium — and this weekly Friday session is the easiest way to try it without committing to a retreat.
Fridays, 6:00pm to 7:00pm, at Aum Yoga Center on Sihamoni Street (inside TUI BLUE Angkor Grace, a few minutes from the Angkor park gate). $15. Arrive ten minutes early so the room can settle — and bring something warm, because you will be lying still for an hour.
