Profile
Banteay Srei is a small but stunning temple located about 25 kilometers north of Angkor, Cambodia. Built in the 10th century during the reign of King Rajendravarman II, it is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Known for its exquisite and intricate carvings, Banteay Srei is often referred to as the “Citadel of Women” due to the fine detail and delicate craftsmanship of its artwork, which features scenes from Hindu mythology. The temple is made of pink sandstone, which gives it a warm, reddish hue. Despite its smaller size compared to other Angkor temples, Banteay Srei is considered one of the finest examples of classical Khmer art and architecture.
