Angkor Empire Marathon 2026
Angkor Empire Marathon 2026
The Angkor Empire Marathon is one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic road races — a multi-distance event held annually on the first Sunday of August, starting at 4:30 AM directly in front of Angkor Wat. For the 11th edition in 2026, the race takes place on August 2 and is expected to draw more than 4,500 runners from around the world.
Four distances are on offer: a 3 km fun run, a 10.5 km road race, a 21.1 km half marathon, and the full 42.195 km marathon. The course winds through the Angkor Archaeological Park, passing around 17 ancient temples including Bayon and Ta Prohm. Water stations are set up every 2 km with both water and electrolyte drinks. All finishers receive a medal; digital certificates are accessible via QR code on race bibs after the event.
Race pack collection takes place on July 31 and August 1 at a designated venue in Siem Reap before the early morning start. Registration is open until June 26, 2026. Entry fees range from $35 for Cambodia residents to $65 for international participants depending on the chosen distance. Registration is managed through Cambodia Events Organizer at cambodia-events.org.
Practical notes for visitors: the 4:30 AM start requires a very early wake-up, but the pre-dawn atmosphere at Angkor Wat is unlike anything else in the region — ancient towers emerging from darkness as thousands of runners line up at the start. August in Siem Reap is warm and humid, so pack light, stay hydrated, and plan a recovery day after the race.
Spectators are welcome along the course and at the finish area. The Angkor Archaeological Park provides a dramatic and memorable backdrop whether you are running or watching.
