Apsara dance is one of the world’s great surviving art forms — a classical tradition listed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Performed for Cambodian royalty for over a thousand years, it nearly vanished entirely during the Khmer Rouge era before a small group of surviving masters rebuilt it from memory in the 1990s. Watching it live in Siem Reap isn’t a tourist attraction — it’s a witness to one of history’s most remarkable acts of cultural recovery.
The Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor stages this tradition in its elegant Raffles Marquee — a colonial-era event space that pairs well with the ceremony of the performance. Dinner begins at 7:00 PM with authentic Khmer cuisine, and the show follows at 7:45 PM. Alongside the classical Apsara dance, the programme includes Khmer martial arts, giving visitors a fuller picture of Cambodia’s royal performance arts.
The schedule shifts by season. From April through October, performances run on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday evenings. From November through March, the show runs daily. Either way, the format is the same: dinner first, then an hour of live performance from trained classical dancers.
