Cambodia Photography Workshop

Cambodia Photography Workshop

The Cambodia Photography Workshop is a 12-day immersive photography experience run by Angkor Travel Photography — one of Southeast Asia’s most recognised photography tour companies, with work featured in National Geographic, The Guardian, the Financial Times, Le Monde, and GEO magazine, and recommended by Forbes, Rough Guides, and Condé Nast Traveller.

Led by Regis Binard, a professional photographer who has lived and worked in Cambodia since 2010 and speaks Khmer, the workshop keeps groups intentionally small — between two and six participants — to ensure genuine access and personal instruction that larger tours cannot offer.

The workshop runs primarily from Siem Reap. Participants photograph the Angkor Archaeological Park in conditions most visitors never experience: Ta Prohm before the crowds arrive, the 200-faced Bayon in soft morning light, and lesser-known jungle temples reached only with a local guide who knows exactly where to be and when. Buddhist monasteries in and around Siem Reap provide extraordinary portrait opportunities — monks at prayer, novices in daily routines, the quiet rhythm of life inside the pagoda walls.

A day on Phnom Kulen takes the group to the sacred mountain where Cambodia’s civilisation began: a waterfall deep in the forest, an ancient reclining Buddha carved into the rock, and the River of 1,000 Linga flowing beneath a jungle stream. A side trip to a rural province — Battambang or Kampong Thom depending on season — brings participants into the Cambodian countryside: rice farming, noodle making, basket weaving, and unscripted village life that cannot be staged for a camera.

On Day 9, the group receives privileged backstage access to Phare, the Cambodian Circus — photographing performers in makeup and rehearsal before taking reserved VIP seats for the evening show. The final full shooting day includes Banteay Srei, the intricately carved 10th-century temple cut from pink sandstone and considered among the finest examples of Khmer art in the world, and a silk weaving factory where traditional techniques are still practised by hand.

The workshop runs twice yearly. August and November editions follow the same itinerary; what changes is the season — green rice paddies in August, golden pre-harvest fields in November.

Upcoming dates: August 17–28, 2026 — November 2–13, 2026 — August 16–27, 2027 — November 8–19, 2027.

Accommodation is at a 4-star boutique hotel in Siem Reap and a 3-star hotel in the countryside. All Angkor park entrance fees, daily breakfast, a farewell dinner, drinking water on excursions, and private transport are included. International flights are not included.
