Hariharalaya’s New Year’s Retreat is a six-day, digital-free crossing from one year into the next — no countdown, no fireworks, no phone. Instead: yoga, meditation, silence, a vegan kitchen, and a sunrise at Angkor Wat somewhere in the middle of it.
Hariharalaya has been running retreats on its campus outside Siem Reap for more than fifteen years, and has hosted over 15,000 guests from more than 100 countries. The centre sits in the countryside on the old Bakheng Road, in a walled garden of lotus ponds, a yoga shala, an art studio, a tree house and a library. There is no wi-fi. Phones go into a box on arrival, and that is rather the point.
The programme is their signature “Yoga of Awareness” course — practical, beginner-friendly work on breath, stillness and attention, taught by a team of facilitators, artists and healers. Days are structured but unhurried: practice, meals, workshops, creativity and community, with plenty of unprogrammed space. Included in the course are five nights’ accommodation, three plant-based meals a day, unlimited coconuts and juice, a Khmer healing massage, a water blessing from local Buddhist monks, and the silent Angkor Wat sunrise journey.
The New Year’s edition runs 29 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 — which means you see out the old year and begin the new one in the quietest possible way. For a certain kind of traveller, that is the most appealing New Year’s Eve imaginable.
Retreats here typically sell out two to four months ahead, and the New Year’s dates go first. Book early. Guests are asked to arrive in Siem Reap a day or two beforehand; the centre runs a complimentary pickup in town on the morning the retreat begins.
